Is Lifestyle Medicine replacing medication?

Medication use is something you decide along with your doctor. I will not advise for or against it. I will not change the type nor the dose of your medication.  In general, Lifestyle Medicine can help prevent or control several conditions. Results depend on many factors. There are many drugs for which there is robust evidence that they are on the right side of the risk/benefit ratio for many patients. There are reports  in the literature that some people may be able to reduce the need for medication, by consistently applying lifestyle changes. However, the science is still developing. There is no 'either-or' dichotomy. Lifestyle medicine and appropriate, guidelines-directed medication work hand in hand.

Are these sessions a replacement of other treatments or other programs?

Not at all. On the contrary, our work is meant to support the advice you may receive from your doctor, nutritionist, cardiac rehab program. I encourage you to share this information with your doctors and any other providers.

Are these services only for people concerned about cardiovascular diseases?

While I have been working during my entire career in the cardiovascular prevention field, addressing lifestyle factors applies to anyone who wants to optimize them. I specifically encourage and invite women, and particularly those who experienced pre-eclampsia, gestational diabetes, to consider early lifestyle interventions.

Do you do lab tests? Do you do Alternative Medicine? Is this psychology?

No, I do not perform labs. I do not practice 'alternative', 'functional', or 'complementary' medicine. I may employ some techniques, such as mindfulness, or other evidence-based strategies derived from positive psychology, however, I am not a psychologist and I do not provide psychological counseling, or any kind of mental health services.

Are these consults about special diets ?

I am not promoting any specific 'diet' outside evidence-based, guidelines-supported, heart-healthy nutrition. My work is grounded in professional guidelines issued by the American Heart Association, American College of Lifestyle Medicine, European Society of Cardiology and the American College of Cardiology.

If you are already working with a Registered Dietician (RD), I will help and support you in implementing their advice, so you can achieve your goals. If you currently do not work with a RD, we will work together toward an evidence-based heart-healthy diet, according to current clinical guidelines. If your needs require a more complex dietary approach, we will work together to connect you with a RD for specific guidance.

Are children candidates for these services?

There is no doubt that, ideally, healthy habits start in childhood. However, my experience and expertise are focused on counseling adults.

Are there supplements for sale, cosmetics or any other merchandise?

No. I do not sell anything and I do not endorse any supplements or products.
